BandsInTown provides the ultimate live-music resource, gets capital from LaunchBox

LaunchBox Digital today held a conference announcing the recipients of 8 sponsorships/mentorships awarded to startups in their early stages.  275 young companies applied and up to 10 were to be selected for LaunchBox09, this year's selection of outstanding tech innovators.

One in particular, BandsInTown stands out.  "Find and buy tickets for any venue, from any ticket provider, at the cheapest price" is the opening headline to their video ad - sounds good to me!

    Happy Anniversary, Sony!

The original blue-and-silver Walkman model TPS-L2 hit Japan on July 1, 1979.

According to the Billboard Top 100, the #1 song (in the USA) that same week was "Ring My Bell" by Anita Ward, before Donna Summer took over with "Bad Boys".

Although Sony still makes casette-playing Walkmans, they are becoming all but obsolete as digital music and MP3 players are the preferred media in 2009.  BBC ran a great story today about a kid who traded his iPod for a Walkman in commemoration and experienced culture shock at its finest.
