They're baaaaaaack ... Google Launching Chrome OS in 2010!

It's been a while since Google put out something monumental, but their moments-ago announcement is sure to have the tech world salivating for more details about Google Chrome Operating System.

Chrome OS is an open source operating system that will be targeted towards heavy Internet users, and thus will be released in a year or so to consumers via netbooks running it.

Here's a quick summary of what to expect from Chrome OS (from the blog post):

    • Based off of the Chrome browser, on top of a Linux kernel
    • Speed, simplicity, and security
    • Most of the user experience is online
    • Redesigned security architecture mitigates risk of viruses, malware
    • Start up and get to the web in seconds
    • Overlaps with Android, but can power full-size desktop systems

    Awww, poor Microsoft.
